Community Center named after Marina Abramović (Cetinje, Montenegro)

Marina Abramović (b. Belgrade, Serbia, 1946) is a conceptual and performance artist who migrated to the Netherlands from Serbia. She pioneered a new notion of identity by bringing in the participation of observers, focusing on « confronting pain, blood, and physical limits of the body ». After studying art in Belgrade and Zagreb, in 1976, Marina moved to The Netherlands with her husband from where she traveled to Paris and Berlin for work. The Marina Abramović Community Center Obod (MACCO) Cetinje was established in 2011. Ambramović’s father was from Cetinje, and this center was a gift of the artist to her father’s hometown. However, although it still exists, the Center never officially started to work.
