Garden named after Queen Mother Elena of Romania (Florence, Italy)

Queen Mother Elena of Romania (b. Athens, Greece, 1896 – d. 1982, Lausanne, Switzerland),  married the prince of Romania Carol and her son was the last king of Romania Mihai. Helen spent her childhood in Greece, the United Kingdom and Germany. The outbreak of WWI saw her exiled to Switzerland. She then married Carol, Crown Prince of Romania, despite his bad reputation and moved to Romania. Later they separated and she emigrated to Florence after the Communists came to power. She was noted for her humanitarian efforts to save Romanian Jews during World War II, which led to her being awarded with the honorific of Righteous Among the Nations by the State of Israel in 1993.
