Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva (b. Moscow, Russia, 1892 – d. 1941, Yelabuga, Russia) was a Russian poetess. While a student at the Briukhonenko High School, she published her first collection, Album du soir. She left Russia and was sent to a boarding school in Lausanne and in 1909, she took a course in literature history at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1912 she married Sergei Efron and in May 1922, Tsvetaeva moved to Europe. In July 1941, following the German invasion, Tsvetaeva and her son were evacuated to Yelabuga, to the Republic of Tataria. There she found herself alone and without any support and hanged herself on 31 August 1941 after being refused work. She is buried in the Petropavlovsk cemetery in Yelabuga, but the exact location of her grave remains unknown.
