Monument dedicated to Charlotte Garrigue Masaryk (Prague, Czech Republic)

    Charlotte Garrigue Masaryk (b. New York, USA, 1850 – d. 1923, Lány, Czechoslovakia) was an American immigrant, naturalized in Central Europe. She was a feminist and wife of the sociologist and first Czechoslovak president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The family of Charlotte Garrigue had rich migration history with Huguenot refugees among their ancestors. Charlotte Garrigue Masaryk and her husband Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (who adopted her surname) were advocates of womenʼs suffrage and helped ensure that women in Czechoslovakia were granted the right to vote in 1918. Charlotte was a member of the Social Democratic Party.
