Paula Rego, full name Maria Paula Figueiroa Rego (b. Lisbonne, 1935) is a Protuguese-British visual artist, who left for Britain as a student of the Slade School of Fine Arts, and then became one of the key members of the London Group. Her success in her hosting nation was marked by her being chosen as the first Artist in Residence at the National Gallery of London. She lives and works in London, but her work is also inspired by Portuguese literature, and she continues to exhibit both in Portugal and Great Britain.
