Paraskewa “Peppi” Boström (Paraskewa Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg) (born St. Petersburg, Russia, 1895 – died Tammisaari, Finland, 1976) was a daughter of Russian princess Elisabeth Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and prince Alexander Zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. Paraskewa’s father died when she was only 6 years old and she and her mother were provided a place to live in by Tsar Nikolai II. Paraskewa moved to Turku in 1916 with her mother when the revolutionaries started to make living in St. Petersburg uneasy. Life in Finland was tough at first, as the Finnish Civil war broke out in 1918 and Elisabeth and Paraskewa had to make living by selling luxury items they had taken with them from Russia. Paraskewa taught lessons in Deutsch and French language. She also worked as a language teacher at Heurlini private school in Turku, where she met her spouse Birger Hugo Boström. They married at the Turku Cathedral in 1930 and moved to Hanko where they both worked as teachers. Paraskewa was also a writer, she published a children’s book called “Strampedini och de tre fruntimren samt andra fantastiska berättelser” in 1943. Paraskewa moved to Tammisaari in 1972 and lived her last years there with her husband.
