Plaque of Elsie Maud Inglis (Medgidia, Romania)

    Dr. Elsie Maud Inglis (b. Naini Tal, India, 1864 – d. 1917, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK), was a talented Scottish surgeon, teacher and suffragist. Inglis was born in India and then educated in Edinburgh and Paris. Inlgis was instrumental in improving poor girl and women medical care facilities.  She made tremendous efforts to treat the wounded in Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and other places around the world. At Braila with just six other doctors, only one surgeon, Inglis and team were treating 11,000 wounded soldiers and sailors. The plaque was unveiled in Medgidia in 2018 during Armistice Day, at The Serbian Heroes’ Monument.
