Sarah Parker Remond (b. Salem, USA, 1826 – d. 1894, Rome, Italy) was a Black American antislavery activist and a suffragette who left America in 1858 to tour in the UK raising awareness of the horrors of slavery. She then moved to Florence, Italy to study at one of Europe’s most famous medical schools, the Santa Maria Nuova hospital. She graduated from there as an obstetrician in 1868.
