School named after Wivi Lönn (Tampere, Finnland)

Wivi Lönn (b. Tampere, Finland, 1872 – d. 1966, Helsinki, Finland) was a Finnish architect and the first woman in Finland to establish her own architect company. She was born in Tampere but also lived in Jyväskylä and later in Helsinki. She also did several European tours and built the Estonia Theatre from 1909 to 1913 with Armas Lindgren. She designed several public buildings, including schools and the Tampere fire station that are still in their original use. She hired many women to be her assistants in a male dominated field of construction work. There are many landmarks in Finland and a walking tour at Tampere dedicated to her.
