
Dora d’ISTRIA (née Elena Ghica, Bucharest, Romania, 1828 – d. 1888, Florence, Italy) was a socialite, writer, diplomat and feminist. She is ‘reclaimed’ by both Romanians and Albanians. There was a square in Florence called Dora d’Istria Piazza from 1908 to 1912, now known as Piazza Isidoro del Lungo.
