Statue of Béatrix de Gâvre (Laval, France)

Béatrix de Gâvre (b. Flanders, Belgium, 1277 – d. Laval, France, 1315) was originally Countess of Falkemberg and the only daughter of Rasse VIII de Gavre, Lord of Gavre, Orcheghem, and Morhem in Flanders. She married in 1297 to Guy IX of Laval. Tradition indicates that in 1299, she brought from her country, weavers who introduced or perfected the weaving of linen fabrics in the county of Laval. A greatly pious lady, she bequeathed considerable sums to the abbeys and hospitals of her native country.
