Statue representing Modeste Testas (Bordeaux, France)

    Al Pouessi, baptized Marthe Adélaïde Modeste Testas and known under the name of Modeste Testas (b. Ethiopia, 1765 – d. 1870, Haiti) was an Ethiopian woman who was born circa 1765, who was enslaved, purchased by Bordeaux merchants and subsequently freed after living on three continents. One of her descendants is a former president of Haiti, François Denys Légitime.
