Lise Meitner (b. Vienna, Austria, 1878 –d. 1968, Cambridge, UK) was an Austrian-Swedish physicist who contributed to the discoveries of the element protactinium and nuclear fission. She took refuge in Sweden during the Second World War, becoming a citizen in 1949, before moving to the UK later in her life.
