Street named after Marie Vassilleff (Paris, France)

    Marie Vassilieff (b. Smolensk, Russia, 1884- d.1957, Nogent-sur-Marne, France,) was a Russian-born painter active in Paris. She moved to Paris at the age of 23 studying painting under Henri Matisse and became an integral part of the artistic community on its left bank called, Montparnasse. In 1915, she opened the canteen that provided a full meal and a glass of wine for only a few centimes, to her starving colleagues- the artistic community.
