    Sister Emmanuelle, born Madeleine Cinquin (b. Brussels, Belgium, 1908 – d. 2008, Callian, France), often nicknamed the “little sister of the rag pickers” or “the little sister of the poor”, is a teacher, Franco- Belgian nun and writer. She was a Religious Sister of both Belgian and French origins, noted for her involvement in working for the plight of the poor in Turkey and Egypt. She was honoured with Egyptian citizenship in 1991.
