    Collection title: Carolyne von Sayn-Wittgenstein (Germany, Italy: 1886)

    Description: Six letters written by the Polish princess Carolyne von Sayn-Wittgenstein in Rome to Cosima Wagner (née Liszt). The princess was a lover of the composer-pianist Franz Liszt for several decades and lived for a long time in Rome, where Liszt was also residing. The women corresponded from at least 1854, and the National Archives of the Richard Wagner Foundation Bayreuth holds a total of 32 letters from or to Carolyne von Sayn-Wittgenstein (digitized and available online), which belong to different units within the archives.
